Women Graduates of COMMAS: Experiences and Perspectives
"Having finished my bachelor's degree in Brazil, I thought that the University Stuttgart would offer a very good combination of factors to keep studying and qualifying myself after moving to Germany: an excellent department for Computational Mechanics, courses aligned with the latest technological trends, great infrastructure and an environment that fosters diversity and respect towards each other. This is exactly what I have experienced throughout the course and can only recommend it to other female students, since we are still only a few in Technology and Engineering in general. Currently, I work in the Technology industry at one of the top German employers customizing for customers our Research and Development software focused on laboratory management and manufacturing. Also, thanks to my technical background I am able not only to implement what the customers need, but also to understand their workflows and methods of working, allowing me to suggest process improvements and maximize the value offered by this software."
"I am a Mechanical Engineer from India, and I first learned about the COMMAS programme through my colleagues in India, who highly recommended it for pursuing my Master’s degree.
What attracted me to COMMAS was its combination of theoretical knowledge and practical applications, preparing students for specialist roles in industry as well as further research opportunities, including a PhD. The programme is also well recognised by both industry and universities across Europe.
During my Master’s, I worked as a student assistant at the university and as a working student in industry. Living in Stuttgart also gave me the opportunity to attend career fairs and research group events, which helped me explore different professional paths and eventually develop an interest in research. I am currently pursuing my PhD at TU Graz.
As a female student, I would highly recommend COMMAS to women interested in engineering and research.
My advice to incoming students would be to remain proactive in learning and networking and to make the most of the opportunities available in Stuttgart. I would also strongly recommend learning German, as it can greatly support integration into academic, professional, and everyday life.
COMMAS is a demanding programme, but for students who are motivated and passionate about engineering, it is a rewarding experience that equips them to approach complex problems with confidence."
